Standard: TIS 166-2549 – Thai Industrial Standard for Plugs and Socket-Outlets for Household and Similar Purposes: Plugs and Socket-Outlets with Rated Voltage not Exceeding 250 V. Appendix A of the standard defines the gauges: Figures A.1 to A.5 check the dimensions of the socket-outlet, Figures A.6 and A.7 check the withdrawal force, and Figures A.8 to A.10 are the additional gauges for socket-outlets.
Application
The Figure A.3 gauge verifies that the earthing contact of a socket-outlet is made before the current-carrying contacts when a plug is inserted.
When the gauge is fully inserted into the socket-outlet at any angle and with moderate force, indicator L2 (earth) lights before L1 and L3. When the gauge is withdrawn, L1 and L3 go out before L2.
The test is made with an indicator supplied at 40–50 V.
Construction
- Body and pins in corrosion-resistant stainless steel, as required by Figure A.3
- Earthing pin longer than the two current-carrying pins, so that the earth contact is made first
- Three test leads L1 / L2 / L3 for a 40–50 V electronic indicator
- Engraved with TIS 166-2549, Figure A.3 and the production number
